Tactics 5.7.2 Fixes Cache Folder Permissions Issues
Tactics 5.7.2 addressed the cache folder permissions issue. The cache folder was moved out of the Tactics directory, and this change should prevent the permissions problem from occurring after the upgrade. If you are on 5.7.1 and experiencing this behavior, proceeding to 5.7.2 is the expected fix.
What permissions are relevant for Tactics? The permissions work focused on the Tactics folder, the cache folder, and related Windows security settings. The following actions were used:
- Take ownership for the local Administrators group.
- Remove explicit or broken permissions and force clean inheritance.
- Grant Full Control to both Domain Users and Authenticated Users recursively.
- Remove CREATOR OWNER so users do not lock out files they create.
It was also noted that full control should already include access applied to child objects in the ITS Software folder.
What should be checked if users cannot open the client? If the client opens slowly or does not open after credentials are entered, try launching Tactics from the ITS Tray buttons instead of the desktop icon:
- Use Start Server or Start Browser from the ITS Tray.
- Avoid relying on the Tactics Central desktop icon, which behaves differently from the ITS Tray.
The following services were identified for review:
- Firmware Download Service
- NATS Services
- Startup Service for Tactics
- All TACTICS services
- YuTraffic Explorer Rest API
On workstations, not all of these services may exist, so only the services present on the workstation should be allowed to start and stop.
What should be considered for domain users? For domain users, Windows can apply different policies. If domain and local policies overlap, the most restrictive access permissions take effect.
