How to Recover a Controller After an Update Issue

You can recover the controller after an update issue by connecting a console cable directly to it and using a USB flash drive that is already plugged in. The recovery process removes the existing SEPAC directory, mounts the USB drive, copies a newer SEPAC package, and runs the install steps to restore the controller to the selected SEPAC version.

What steps should you follow?

  1. Open a console connection directly to the controller.
  2. Make sure a USB flash drive is already plugged in.
  3. Run the following commands in order:
    1. cd /opt/siemens
    2. rm -r sepac
    3. mount /dev/sda1 /media/usb
    4. cp /media/usb/siemens/updates/SEPAC_5.6.x.tgz SEPAC_5.6.x.tgz
    5. tar -xzvpf SEPAC_5.6.x.tgz
    6. ./install preinstall SEPAC_5.6.x.tgz
    7. ls -l /etc/rc.d/rc.siemens
  4. Check for S51sepac in /etc/rc.d/rc.siemens.
  5. If S51sepac is present, reboot the controller.

Which SEPAC version should be used?

Use a newer SEPAC version than v5.2.2.

What should you check before rebooting?

After running the install steps, verify the rc.siemens file and confirm that S51sepac exists. If it does, the recovery is complete and the controller can be rebooted.
